Dragon Boating
I started competing with a women's team called the Schuylkill Dragons last year. Since then, our team
has grown and become stronger. We took the silver at the nationals
competition, losing by only 3/100 of a second.
This year, I have also been competing with the
Philadelphia Dragon
Boat Association (PDBA) (http://www.schuylkilldragons.org) who
competes with men's and co-ed teams. With them, we won the gold at nationals and
I have earned the right to a seat in the boat competing next year in Berlin at
the world's competition.
This year, I have just qualified with the United States Dragon Boat team going to China in October. I will be competing with the co-ed boat and possibly with the women's boat as
well. If you are interested in donating to the paddlers going to China and
to the US team, please contact me and I will tell you where to send the check,
etc. Remember, it is a 501c3 non-profit so your money is tax
deductible.
If you are interested in
paddling, please contact me. We are always looking for competitive and
recreational paddlers to join us.

Heifer Project International
(http://www.heifer.org/) A fantastic world organization that helps indigent peoples around the world
to help them improve their living conditions and health through improved
agriculture and an understanding of cleanliness and disease transmission.
Each person who is helped then helps someone else and the project continues.
My husband, Stuart, and I spent about 5 weeks working with Heifer Project in
Thailand in 2000. I can honestly attest to the fact that their program
changes lives for the better. The people were healthier, happier and able
to send their children to school.
Instead of the usual stuff this Christmas and Hanukah, why not give a water
buffalo in the name of your friends and family.

Remote Area Veterinary
Services of the Humane Society of the United States
(http://www.ruralareavet.org/)
I have had the opportunity to work with this group every summer for the past 4 years. They go into communities on the Native
American reservations in the US and villages in Central America.
There they offer free veterinary care for the animals. The man power is through veterinary
students who are overseen by veterinarians. Everyone wins. The people receive
free education and vet care for their pets and work animals. The students get
more vet experience than they are ever going to in vet school, and everyone
feels as though they have done a good thing for the animals.
